Morning Update 1-30-17:

As lots of money is wagered on the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, MS is still waiting to see if the US Supreme Court takes up a case that might enable this state to get in on the action.   Attorney General Jim Hood joined a New Jersey lawsuit that challenges a federal ban on sports betting in most states.  Hood says he's not necessarily in favor of a sports book here but says the decision ought to be up to the states, not Washington.

FEMA says if any tornado victims in MS are denied federal assistance, they'll have 60 days to appeal.  Inspectors are fanning out across the Pine Belt verifying the damage reported by those who've applied for federal aid.  A fourth Disaster Recovery Center opens this morning in Perry Co.

Should be a mild week weather-wise in MS with only a slight chance of rain creeping back into the forecast toward the end of the week.  Rain chances increase late this weekend and NWS says it's possible that we might see some severe weather next week.   Stay tuned.
