Orange Is the New Black is coming to an end after its upcoming seventh season. The cast of the Emmy-winning Netflix series announced the news in a bittersweet video shared to social media Wednesday (October 17). Among those featured in the emotional clip include series favorites Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Danielle Brooks, and others.

Creator and showrunner Jenji Kohan, who will stay on for the series finale, also provided the following statement: “After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison. I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black.”

The highly-acclaimed series, based on Piper Kerman’s memoir Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, has been a worldwide success for the network since its 2013 inception, becoming Netflix’s most-watched original show.

The series follows Kerman (portrayed by Schilling) and her fellow inmates as they brave penitentiary life at Litchfield Minimum Security Prison. The show has since portrayed many of the main inmates at the much-talked-about Maximum Security Prison in its sixth season.

In its tenure, OITNB has received six Golden Globe nominations, six Writers Guild of America Award nominations, a Peabody Award, an American Film Institute award and a Producers Guild of America Award.

Orange Is the New Black Season 7 premieres in Summer 2019.
