Ellen DeGeneres Receives The Carol Burnett Award At 2020 Golden Globes

Ellen DeGeneres was one of the many winners at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards.

As the recipient of the Carol Burnett Award at the Sunday night (January 5) ceremony, which was introduced by SNL's Kate McKinnon, DeGeneres, 61, was honored for her work in television by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, following the inaugural 2019 honoree to Carol Burnett herself. "All I ever wanted to do is make people feel good and laugh," the comedian told the crowd at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. "There's no greater feeling than when someone tells me that I made their day better with my show or that I helped them get through a sickness or a hard time in their lives."

DeGeneres took time to crack a few jokes about how the cameramen wouldn't be able to cut her off because she was receiving an honorary award. Yet, there was a bigger point to the star's time on screen. "But the real power of television, for me, is not the people that watch my show, but the people that watch myself and then they're inspired to go out and do the same thing in their own lives," she continued. "They make people laugh or be kind or help someone that's less fortunate then themselves and that is the power of television and I'm so, so grateful to be part of it."

Stay tuned for more on Sunday night's 77th Golden Globe Awards, including all the show highlights and a full list of winners!
